Acrylic on 60x36" canvas
Reflections in a parking lot.
There are some questions I am getting asked again and again, maybe my artist statement will help:
Traveling in a car is a daily routine for most people in America today. We are often caught between destinations. Much of our exposure to the surrounding landscape is from within an insulated vehicle. For those who are along for the ride, there is a detachment from the scene that is unique to the passenger side. In order to study this relationship, I have taken moments from this journey and turned them into a destination. These common scenes deserve another look. By photographing scenes as a passenger and reinterpreting them with acrylic paint on canvas, I echo the relationship between artist and viewer. The artist becomes the driver and the viewer becomes the passenger. Although my major inspiration comes from the subject itself, there are certain artists and movements that have influenced my interpretation, including Wayne Thiebaud, Edward Hopper, and the Impressionists, particularly Camille Pissarro. These artists emphasize color and light in the commonplace, and I do the same in my work. Through painting the perspective of a passenger in a car, the role of the viewer as an observer is emphasized, and the beauty of the light and color in the commonplace is revealed.

yeah ... i mean ..
it's not interesting for me to see a capture of a parking lot with a puddle
i find the draw to be great technically ... way better than i can do that's for sure .. and i'm sure i have some stuff in my gallery that can be easily picked on as uninspiering and such.
Ah, I understand you now.
Well, my intention was for the viewer to see the beauty in something so common and mundane. It is unfortunate that you find it uninspiring, but thank you for sharing your thoughts. It is valuable to know when something doesn't work for someone
You had done so well with Urban Road/Auto Cityscapes, that it is surprising that you still find subjects and techniques that still improve upon the effect of your paintings on the viewer.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

To stop a nosebleed, apply pressure.
To start a nosebleed, apply greater pressure in short - repeated bursts.
