I am fascinated by this one, even more than usual. Can I ask if there is a social comment behind it, or was the inspiration the technical accuracy?

Yes there is a social comment behind it, but one between the viewer and the space depicted.
It isn't a black and white "this is bad" "this is good" judgement.
I'm attempting to envoke the seduction of colorful packages sitting neatly in the aisle combined with the anxiety of the warped, empty space.
In other words, it is what it is, and you get from it what you see in it.
Unfortunately, here you have to do it squinting at a tiny image on a screen :-\
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

Sometimes the truth about things reveals itself only when we look back at the photographs.
No Reservations -- Anthony Bourdain
You really feel inside the picture thanks to that fish eye effect, color, composition and the big amount of details also play a big part on that.
And it also gives a strange sensation since the place it's empty, it's like if you knew the place but at the same time you don't.
Great work.

As usual, I'm ridiculously impressed, awed, and proud to say "I know that girl, she's hot." ^_~
